What is Tactical Fitness Training?
Tactical Fitness Training (T.F.T.) is the fitness program used by the A.C.W.A. to
build strength, flexibility, cardio, and mobility. The program is unique in that it
uses ones own body weight, a heavy bag and some focus mitts to train your body
in much the same way as special forces here and overseas do in preparation for
combat. We use the Tabata interval training method for maximum results in minimum
time. This method stresses us to be as efficient as possible and
yet yield maximum gains all the time conditioning the body to
reduce the chance of injury.
What is the Tabata method?
In the late 1990s, Izumi Tabata and his colleagues at the Japanese Institute of Fitness and Sport measured how two different types of interval training sessions affected the aerobic and anaerobic energy systems. What they found was a way to stay fit across multiple
disciplines: it's excellent for bicyclists, speed skaters, Olympic lifters, or those looking to lose weight.
Their research showed that an interval of 20 seconds of intense activity followed by 10 seconds of rest puts both the aerobic and anaerobic systems at peak stress and improves both aerobic and anaerobic capacity.
By coupling the Tabata method to our combative pad mechanics and body weight exercises we start to form the foundation of the T.F.T. program.
What can T.F.T. offer me?
T.F.T. is a non-contact (we strike only
pads and heavy bags) fitness program that offers
you the chance to build YOU UP while minimizing your chances of injury. The following
is a list of some of the items the program has to offer:
Building:
- Explosive power to move how you need to, when you need to
- Biomechanical efficiency & combative mechanics
- A solid foundation for joint stability and mobility
Applicability:
- Body weight exercises used by special forces operators
- Kickboxing and clich fighting pad drills
- Heavy Bag grappling & striking training
Practicality:
- Can be done with a minimum of equipment and time
- Builds you up instead of breaking you down
- Skills translate to both sport and combatives for tactical operators
- You go at YOUR pace
